ATA
An ATA is a analog telephone adapter. I would like one mostly for fax capabilities. I don’t need one for voice since my home phone has an integrated VOIP capabilities within the base station.
The alternative would be to acquire a POTS based phone service, but it would seem all of the promoted ones are way too much just to mostly receive faxes, and occasionally send faxes out.
And the problem with many multi-function centers is there is no integrated FOIP. Simply put, one can’t simply enter the provider information, and start sending and receiving faxes. You either have to plug it into the wall of your POTS line, or use an ATA.
If I was to get an ATA and a respective fax system, I would most likely get a dedicated account for the fax line as to not interfere with my voice solutions. From what I seen, the only reasonably priced carrier that is assuring support for faxes would be Call Centric. With the exception of their 2 cents/minute rate, and the requirement of shoving the E911 fee down your throat is the only real problem I have with them.
A Cisco/Linksys ATA with two lines at Amazon is $50. You can view that by going to my Amazon Wish List.
